Jay was finally coming home. It seemed like forever since he left. I wondered what kind of news he had or what he had been doing all this time. He told me he had been sick for a while. I hoped he was well enough to make the trip home. I couldn’t wait to see him.
I needed to get food in the house. I promised him his favorite dinner, but wherever would I find chicken and potatoes nowadays? I barely ate anything myself, but its different when there is more than one person in the house. I needed to make a shopping list. Then I needed to find a store to buy food. Where would I look? How could I go shopping by myself? I wouldn’t. I would call Coralee or Kathy and find out where they shop.
Let’s see, I needed to find some sort of chicken, potatoes, cheese, sugar, flour, maybe some chocolate chips to make cookies too. I also needed some more teabags and coffee. Once I looked in my kitchen cupboards, I realized I needed all sorts of things. I guess I hadn’t been eating anything but tea and toast lately. That will change when Jay comes home, for sure!
Once I had my list ready, I decided to call Coralee and find out where she got her supplies. No one answered at her house. She didn’t answer her secret phone either. I called Kathy. She didn’t answer any of her phones either. What was going on? I called Mary, but Ed said that she had gone out. She was due home soon, but he was getting worried. She hadn’t called to report in yet. This was getting scary. It wasn’t until I called Tom and no one answered there either that I really freaked out. None of my friends and colleagues were answering their phones. What was going on??
