Everyone went home, leaving me alone in my fortress. I was protected from the world outside. I was protected from the crazed flesh eating creatures that roamed the streets. I was protected from any burglars, intruders, peeping toms, or even annoying salesman that used to plague the neighborhood. With all the high tech electrical equipment installed in this house and all around it, there was no one who could invade my house without my knowledge. All I had to do what stay aware and be on guard.
But what about this new development? What was I suppose to do about the government and the military personnel lurking about? Could they possibly enter my home without me knowing? Could they override my security fence and diffuse any other protection protecting my house? They had more knowledge and experience with these things than I ever did. Were they even watching me like they watched Coralee or Kim? They had to have been watching what Kim was doing at work. That’s why they confiscated her things. They knew Kim was working on extremely delicate issues regarding this whole zombie scenario. That’s what her job entailed.
Coralee worked with the transportation department. She had resources to warehouses and trucks. She knew people across the nation. The government dealt with her company all the time. If the government suspected something, they would send people to survey the situation. Maybe that’s why Coralee was being watched. What about Tom? He worked in pharmaceuticals. Isn’t that highly monitored by the government? Was he being watched too but maybe didn’t know it yet?
Mary and Ed ran their pizza place. It all seemed ordinary enough. Their biggest clientele, however, was the police force and the city counsel members. Everyone ate at their place. Mary once joked that she was privy to some interesting information when the board members met at her place for lunch. Ed didn’t say much, but he heard everything that went on in his establishment. He knew what everyone would order before they did. He paid attention to detail. Could that be why those black vehicles were keeping watch on their street?
Was I even on the government’s radar? Was there any reason that they would be suspicious of me? I was just a free lance writer who was looking for a new beginning. I certainly found it. I moved into a new house with a new set of friends into a world filled with science fiction craziness and now paranoia. I needed to know what to do next. It was time for me to investigate what was going on.
