Mary and Coralee finally arrived. Coralee still looked terrified and exhausted. After double checking to make sure everything was secure, we all went downstairs. No one knew what to say or how to start. I finally began the meeting by telling everyone what Kim had said to me on the phone. Then Coralee finished with her story about the truck that kept perusing her street and how she was followed afterwards. The room was filled with anticipation and tension.
Tom looked at everyone and asked if anyone else had experienced something like that. I mentioned the helicopters that had been flying overhead lately. Mary told us that a couple of black vehicles had been driving up and down the streets of downtown this week. She and Ed had been watching them. The cars never stopped, but just kept investigating the area. Kathy also mentioned the helicopters. She thought they might also be surveying the area.
Coralee interrupted with the one question we all were asking. “Just what are they looking for though? The zombies or us?”
I continued, “ And why did they take Kim and her family? If the government was really trying to transport us to a safer place, why trash Kim’s house and confiscate all her work in the warehouse? Something else is going on here. Are we suppose to protect ourselves from the walking dead and the military? How is that suppose to happen?”
“You’re right, April.” answered Tom. “We’ve got more going on here than we anticipated. We’re going to have to be extremely cautious about our comings and goings. We also need more information as to why these government officials are doing what they are doing. Why aren’t they worried about the zombies and why aren’t they eliminating them from the community? Eventually, I would think, that these creatures would have to die out or be killed. Why take ordinary citizens away from their homes? Why not just eradicate the problem instead?”
“We need to get more information.” Mary insisted. “Ed and I will try to filter into the local police information base and see what we can find out. Tom or Coralee, can you use your resources to uncover any details about Kim or what else is going on? That would be helpful.”
Everyone agreed to use whatever assets they had to help this situation. We adjourned the meeting with a prayer for safety and protection over Kim and her family and all of us. We were going to need it!
