Tom was the first person to arrive to our emergency meeting. Kathy was following behind. I watched them park their cars as far up the driveway as possible after I turned off the fence alarm. As soon as Kathy’s car passed the front gate, I turned the alarm back on. Looking past the trees and bushes into the street, I saw nothing but an empty neighborhood. There were no monsters anywhere. They must be hiding or sleeping. How peculiar that they know something is going on as well.
I let Tom and Kathy in through the back door. Everything today was to be in secret. No one was to know we were meeting. With the government officials lurking around, we had to be especially careful. We decided we would have our meeting in the house today instead of the garage. Tom and Kathy were quiet as they walked into the living room and opened the secret passage way from the bookshelf. Tom went downstairs and prepared chairs and tables for everyone to sit at. Kathy stayed with me as we watched for Mary and Coralee. It was strangely eerie. We just kept watching and waiting. It seemed like we had been waiting for an eternity and then Kathy’s phone rang. It was Mary.
Mary had been closing up shop and locking the door when Coralee came running towards her. She was out of breath and almost passed out in front of Mary. Mary unlocked the door and got Coralee something to drink and gave her a moment to compose herself. Mary told Kathy that Coralee had snuck out of her house, but as she was driving to my house, she thought she was being followed. She didn’t want anyone to know where she was going, so she made a detour around some neighborhood streets. She then pulled into Wayne’s vacant house and hid her car in his garage. She waited until she thought the coast was clear and then dodged out the side door and ran to Mary’s place. They were both there now, but they would be on their way shortly. Ed was finding some extra weapons to give them, just in case of unexpected problems. He was not coming to the meeting, but securing the storage area downstairs and their dwelling place. He would stay close to the phone in case we needed him for anything.
Kathy and I went downstairs to meet up with Tom. Mary would call us when she was getting closer. She and Coralee were coming together. Tom had already set up some coffee and tea for all of us. Looks like it was going to be a long meeting.
