Kathy head straight to the sporting goods department. There were tents, sleeping bags, canteens, fishing equipment and so on and so forth. There were no guns left nor was there any ammunition. Obviously whoever hit Kathy on the head had taken those. There was, however, a whole section of hunting gear left. There were orange hats and vests and camouflaged clothes. I wandered around trying to figure out what we could salvage out of these leftovers. Coralee was rummaging through the hunting jackets and pants, but Kathy headed straight towards the hunting accessories. Then we heard her shout and we went running towards her.
“What’s wrong, Kathy?” Coralee and I both yelled in unison.
“Oh, nothing’s wrong, Something’s right. I found some laundry detergent we could use.” She started picking up these half gallons of hunting detergent and handing them to us.
“What do we need this for?” asked Coralee. “ I have plenty of detergent at home.”
“Silly,” Kathy kept picking up more bottles. “Its hunting detergent. You wash your clothes in it and the deer can’t smell you. It hides your human scent.”
“No Way!” I gasped. “I didn’t know there was such a thing. This could be very helpful!”
“That’s what I was thinking.” Kathy exclaimed.
I looked around for something to haul our new discoveries back to the cars. Next to the sporting goods section was a huge selection of backpacks and pocketbooks. I ran over and grabbed three of biggest backpacks I could find. I brought them back to show Kathy and Coralee.
“Hey, we can stuff them in here to help us carry them.”
“Good idea!” and Kathy started piling bottles into the bags.
“April! Kathy!” I heard Coralee yelling. “Check these out camouflage clothes. They’ve got all sizes. I bet we could use these too! They are lined for being outside in the cold.”
We grabbed as many pieces of hunting clothing that we could find and shoved those in the backpacks too. Kathy went back and grabbed a few more bags for Mary and Tom. “These will definitely come in handy too!”
Suddenly, Coralee’s phone vibrated. It was Tom. We looked at our watches. It was way past the time we said we would meet again at Wayne’s place. We needed to head back, it was starting to get dark.
Coralee and I shoved whatever else we thought would be helpful into our extra bags. Before we left the store, Kathy grabbed some of the detergent and poured it all over her. “This way those zombie things won‘t be able to detect me. You guys smell really weird though. What is that, fire extinguisher #9? I’m sure it worked for your intensive purposes, but please, don’t buy me any for Christmas, okay?”
We laughed and agreed. Then we geared up and headed back to Wayne’s place. The sky had cleared up, but the darkness had set in quickly.
