Nothing much happened last night. After dropping off the truck, Ed and his puppy gave me a ride home. Ed put the pooch in a little box and snuggled her between the two front seats. The puppy didn’t make a sound, but just kept her head as close to Ed as was possible. Ed decided to call her Ginger because she looked like she had red hair. (I guess he found out it was a girl doggie.)
We decided we would plan another book club meeting in another day or two, after things died down around town. We made a pact, though, to always keep our phones close by and to call one another every day. I still haven’t heard from Coralee, and I’m starting to get worried. I called again this morning, but no one answered. So I went through the boxes that we brought back from the warehouse.
I was just about to dig into the third box when my phone rang in the living room. I ran to get it, hoping it was Coralee finally. To my surprise, it was my son!!
“Hey, Mom! It’s me, Jay!! I’m on my way home!!”
“Where are you now? How much longer until you get home?” I was so excited.
“How long before you can turn off the fence?” I heard him laugh.
“What do you mean? Are you outside now?”
“No, I’m in Alaska and I’m just wondering how long it takes you to turn off our fence.” He laughed some more. “Come on, Mom. Go turn off the fence so I can come in!”
I dropped the receiver and ran upstairs to turn the fence off. Then I ran back down again and opened the front door. Waiting by the curb was Jay in some strange gray car with someone else in the front seat with him. I waved and he waved back!! Then he drove the car into the driveway. I ran upstairs again to turn the fence back on! By the time I came back down, Jay was standing in the doorway. I practically jumped into his arms to hug him and he hugged me back!
“Its so nice to be home again.” Jay sighed as he looked around the house.
“It’s so nice to have you back!” I wasn’t letting go of his arm. “Come on in and relax. Are you hungry? Do you want some ice tea?”
Jay hugged me again. “I would love some ice tea, Mom. And I think my surprise might like some too.”
I turned around to see my niece Taylor standing behind us. Wow! How wonderful! I hadn’t seen my niece in a long time and with everything going on, I wasn’t sure I would see her again. I let go of Jay’s arm so I could hug my niece.
“Taylor!! I’m so glad to see you!! This is great!!”
“Hi, Auntie April. Its nice to finally be here too.” Taylor gave me a big hug.
I shuffled Jay and Taylor into the living room and closed and locked the door. It was truly unbelievable that they were both standing there in my living room. Taylor just kept looking around. Jay sat down on the couch and put his feet up on the ottoman.
“So nice to be home. I am exhausted.”
“I bet you are. Come on, tell me what you’ve been doing. Where were you? How did you connect up with Taylor? What’s going on?” I had so many questions.
“I promise, Mom. I will answer all your questions. But first, is there anything here to eat? I’m starving.”
